Good morning to our wonderful families! As summer approaches, we know many of you have wondered how you can continue your child’s learning at home. We will be providing some fun resources for you and your child to do over the summer if you would like to! One of the resources we came across was a fantastic website called www.startwithabook.org:
To ward off the learning loss that many children experience over the summer, Start with a Book offers parents, caregivers, summer program staff and librarians lots of engaging ideas for getting kids hooked on reading, exploring and learning all summer long — and beyond. The free resources from Start with a Book build on what young children already like — dinosaurs, building, animals, sports, superheroes and music — so that parents, camp counselors, and others can have fun and interact meaningfully with children while helping to strengthen their reading skills. This website is worth taking a look at! We are so grateful for all the time and effort you have put into working with your child these past few months. We know it is not always easy. Thank you for your support and cooperation throughout this unique experience. Have a great rest of your week! Mrs. Byra, Mrs. Craven and Mrs. Harris Hello grade one families,
Below is letter written to students from our teacher-counsellor, Mrs. Steph. It is a great reminder that all feelings are normal and valid. Times like these can result in emotions that are uncomfortable and challenging and that is okay. We are so proud of our students and so very thankful for our supportive parent community. You are AMAZING! Hello Grade 1 families!
We hope that you have been enjoying some fresh air and sunshine, as well as doing your best to keep up with the lessons posted on our website. We love seeing the photos of student learning that you have been sharing with us – keep sending them our way! 😊 Did you catch the big announcement on Monday? https://youtu.be/GOQY68C3ylI Panago Pizza North is offering a FREE personal pizza to each Galbraith student on Wednesday, May 20th. Check your e-mail for the details and a link to pre-order your child’s free pizza. All pizzas must be pre-ordered via the link prior to 11:00 AM on Friday, May 15th. As we head into the long weekend, we would like to let you know that this week’s lessons will remain posted, as the current assignment, until Monday. The lessons for next week will be posted to the grade one website on Tuesday, the 19th. As Monday is a holiday and Tuesday is a professional learning day, there will be only two lessons posted (one for Wednesday and one for Thursday). Friday, we will return to normal with a full week of lessons posted. We hope that you enjoy the long weekend with your families – you deserve a restful and relaxing break! Thank you for all that you do in supporting this wild, learning journey! Love, Mrs. Byra, Mrs. Craven, and Mrs. Harris Hello to all of you wonderful parents! May 4-10 is Mental Health Awareness week and being in this unique and stressful situation can really take its toll on all of us. Taking care of the mental health of our families and ourselves is so incredibly important right now and always. This year’s theme is social connection and its importance for mental health. Our amazing school counsellor has provided some activities to help you and your families connect with your community and engage in an intentional way.
Have a wonderful week! Give those kiddos lots of hugs for us! Mrs. Byra, Mrs. Craven and Mrs. Harris. Hello students and families,
We would just like to remind you that you are doing an awesome job! Things are tough right now and it is important to remember that doing your best is good enough. Below is a letter written to our Galbraith community by our school counsellor, Steph McLennan that serves as a positive reminder of this. We miss you all! Love, Mrs. Byra, Mrs. Craven, and Mrs. Harris Hello Grade 1 and HELLO SUNSHINE!
We hope that you all had a restful, safe, and fun Spring break! The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and the world around us is starting to turn green with life. Seasonal Changes is a Grade One Science topic and what better way to learn about Spring then to be outside, experiencing it firsthand! Students in grade one are expected to do no more than one hour of school work, per day. This leaves lots of time to play and enjoy one another, while also soaking up the vitamin D. We love receiving the photos of your home learning – please keep sending them our way! It is so difficult to be away from the school and away from one another. Seeing pictures of students’ beautiful smiles and hard work brings so much joy to our days! We miss you! Love, Mrs. Byra, Mrs. Craven, and Mrs. Harris Hello Grade 1s and families!
We love receiving your pictures showing us all the ways you are learning at home! Keep sending them in. We hope that you are finding the activities are things you can do with materials you already have at home and that they are helping you connect your learning to the world around you. Although you may feel like you should be doing school for more hours per day, please remember that children learn through play and the government has asked for Grade 1 students to be doing five hours per week (or about one hour per day). Remember, from April 10th through 20th, it is Spring break. We will be uploading the next set of new lessons on April 20th. In the meantime, spend lots of time playing and enjoying your family. Parents, please remember how important play is for children. We are gradually building a section on the webpage with information about the importance of play if you are interested in learning more. The only “work” we hope you will do over the break is reading. Reading every day is such an important part of continuing to grow in your learning, so don’t forget to log onto Epic and RAZ Kids and practice your reading if you don’t have books at home. And if you’re feeling like you’d like to check out more activities, there are lots of links to additional resources on our webpage. We miss you lots and are sending big hugs! ❤ Mrs. Byra, Mrs. Craven, and Mrs. Harris . |
